Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Renaissance, Repertoire. Score, Set of Parts. 25 pages. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications
By the time MichaelPraetorius published his extensive dance collection entitled Terpsichore (terp-SIH-cory)in 1612, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. This Boureis a well-known and lively dance and sure to add some sparkle to any concertevent. This piece is arranged for virtually any combination of conventionalwind instruments and percussion, with optional keyboard part.
In this series, Renaissance Hits for Wind Instruments, someof the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are allattractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semesterevents. They are fairly easy to play too. The flexible arrangement makes themplayable by all sorts of non-standard ensembles. The keyboard part allows you to use them as solos or duets for mixed instruments.
This publication consists of a score showing the four-partensemble, keyboard and percussion parts. There are separate parts in varioustranspositions. The optional keyboard part is intended as a guide and whenpossible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown.A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acousticharpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichordoption.
The percussion instruments used are similar to those foundin elementary school music rooms and usually include a small bass drum orhand-held drum, clave or small headless tambourine. Two players are usuallyrequired and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intendedto be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

Five Dances from Terpsichore for Easy Piano

Composed by Michael Praetorius et al. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional, Renaissance. Score. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #690673. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications
Here?s a great way to explore some of the most popular European dance music of the early seventeenth century. This book contains easy piano arrangements of several dances from dance collection entitled Terpsichore published by Michael Praetorius in 1612. At the time he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany and the publication consisted of over three hundred dances in four, five and six parts. The name is pronounced ?terp-SI-cory? and rhymes with the word ?hickory?. Although the dances were probably conceived for string ensemble Praetorius was well aware that in practice, they would be played by any instruments that happened to be available. The five dances in this set actually include eight different numbers. These arrangements are based on the original 1612 publication, which did not include dynamics, phrasing or articulations. Any shown in these arrangements are the suggestion of the arranger. The keyboard parts have been fully fingered though fingering is omitted from repeated sections to encourage the player to memorize them. If the music is being played on a digital piano, the harpsichord sound (if available) might sound more authentic. The music is printed in fairly large easy-to-read notation and this collection would be ideal for the elementary keyboard player. The audio sample contains (1) Volta (2) Two Courantes and (3) La Boure.

Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1228118 Composed by Various and compiled by Michael Praetorius (1612). Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional,Renaissance. Score and individual part. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #824216. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1228118). Dances from Terpsichore (Michael Praetorius)These are eleven of the most well-known dances of the Renaissance, selected from the famous collection entitled Terpsichore, pubished in 1612 by Michael Praetorius. They are sure to be a welcome addition to the recorder player's repertoire. The notes of the recorder part have been kept well within the intermediate range.By the time Michael Praetorius published his dance collection, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. The name is pronounced “terp-SI-cory” and rhymes with the word “hickory”. The original publication consisted of 312 dances in four, five and six parts. Although the dances were probably conceived for string ensemble Praetorius was well aware that in practice, they would be played by any instruments that happened to be available. These arrangements for recorder (or recorders) and keyboard are based on the original 1612 publication. The music sounds more authentic using a harpsichord rather than a piano, or the harpsichord sound of a digital keyboard. The keyboard part may be interpreted quite freely with ornamentation added as appropriate. During the Renaissance, it was common practice to combine separate dances to create something of more substantial duration. A similar practice is used in these arrangements which are as follows: 1. Three Gavottes; 2. Two Ballets; 3. Two Bourées; 4. Two Courantes and 5. Two Voltas. The audio sample contains numbers 1, 2, 3 and 5.
